I have struggled with whether to -- or not to -- publish some of Joe's poems. Joe never wanted to go public; for Joe, nothing he wrote was "good enough" or finished. For me, the realization of how dead dead really is, helped in my decision. The idea of a part of Joe on a printed page in a book began to excite me, as well as others who loved him. In this way he lives for us -- for his children and their children, for his friends and their children. Estelle Lerner
